more coming up at 5:45. >>> new this morning an alarming wakeup call in the south bay. ktvu janine de la vega is in san jose where police suspect someone set a house on fire. janine. >> reporter: we're here in willow glen. this neighborhood is a safe neighborhood. looks like an upper middle class neighborhood. two and a half hours ago police and firefighters were called here to this house because it appears that somebody set the door of the house on fire. i don't know if you can tell there it's a little dark but the door is discolored. that is because it has been blackened from the fire. firefighters were called here for a report of a house on fire. when they arrived they found the front door in flames. it was quickly extinguished and the three people inside were unharmed. they determined somebody threw a flammable liquid on the door and then they it will it on fire. >> they were kind of shaken up over the ordeal. this is something that is not normal and they don't know why it happened to them. and they were sleeping at the time. they woke up to a small commotion like a bang on the do

wakeup call to a family in san jose. they woke up to flames. janine de la vega is live at the scene. you say police think this is deliberate. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. this is an upper middle-class neighborhood with homes well over a million dollars. for some reason or another, the home right here has been targeted. here you can see yellow paint. this was from an earlier incident. the latest one happened this morning. here you can see in the entryway of this house, it's all black as well as the door. there's smoke damage there. that's because it was lit on fire. police and firefighters came to glenwood avenue at around -- at around 3:00 this morning. they say the husband, wife and adult daughter herd a commotion. they walked out to find their front door was on fire. the homeowner was able to put it out before firefighters arrived. he told us that the morning before his daughter's ford focus was vandalized. the person who did this, apparently they left the screwdriver behind. the homeowner is completely rattled. he didn't want to be identified. he says he doesn

damaging two businesses about 8:00 a.m. this morning. ktvu's janine de la vega tells us what was found inside that truck. >> reporter: firefighters surveyed through the debris inside this store called up in smoke. employees stood back speechless as they watched them trying to pull this van out. the van was stolen at 2:00 a.m. >> there were reports that called in saying they saw it speeding down the road with a tire off, sparks flying. >> reporter: this morning a passerby watched as the van plunged into had store. inside a couple of 12paction of beer were -- 12 packs of beer were found. >> they had alcohol. they were probably dui and that probably contributed to them running into a business. >> reporter: both businesses are left to clean up the mess. this is only one of two vans they owe and this will cost them. >> we are speechless. we had the pet expo this weekend, i don't know now. >> we just remodeled it. we got a lot of stuff in there worth a lot of money and now with the water, i am sure he is disappointed. >> reporter: the damage here is unknown how long the store will remain clo

following breaking news in san jose where a mobile pet spa crashed into a store. ktvu's janine de la vega just arrived on the scene. janine? >> reporter: we're here at 85. right behind me, you can see a tow truck is pulling out this mobile dog spa, grooming van. it's called just for paws. it has gone and completely crashed into this smoke shop here located into this strip mall i just spoke with police a short time ago and they tell me that this accident all happened at 6:30 this morning. and apparently what happened is somebody who works for the just for paws mobile spa company left this unit basically unattended, was warming it up either in a parking lot or their driveway. when they came out, they found it was stolen. next thing you know, a couple of hours later, police say that they get a call from somebody passing by saying that this van has just crashed into the smoke shop called up in smoke and they saw four young men running away from the van. we don't know if anybody was hurt. as far as we know, the four suspects have not been caught. just a lot of damage left over here in this smo
